| Fire Protection District Welcomes New Fire Trucks |
|
After years of planning and receiving support through Collegiate Peaks Bank for financing, the South Arkansas Fire Protection District Board of Directors and the Salida Firemen have welcomed 2 new fire trucks to the fleet. The new 2010 Type II Water Tenders were built on International Chassis by Custom Fab and Body of Marion Wisconsin. These new trucks replace two 1991 water tenders that were serving the community. The process of design, manufacturer bidding and construction has taken almost 2 years and should serve the community for the next 20-25 years or longer. The trucks are designed to carry large amounts of water (2000 gallons each) and support both wildland and structural firefighting. |

With a traditional ceremony of wetting the new trucks down, pushing them into the bays and wiping them off, the Board of Directors placed the units into service on August 9, 2010. The two replaced tenders will continue to serve the firefighting community by being sold to Fowler Rural Fire Protection District and NorthWest Fire Protection District. The public is invited to stop by and look at these new fire trucks at the station, located at the corner of 1st and E Streets. |
